What has changed in my conception of how popular culture? Nothing much other than the idea of conflict causing unpredictable shifts and spikes of popularity. Conflict, to me, always seemed like a smaller portion of what shaped pop-culture, but the past articles and video made it seem more like the center piece of change. I will take their word that it is majorly significant, but my personal view won't be changed that much. I still see it as minor, no great or frequent examples were given to persuade me. A good portion of the video was a conflict in a city, over the defining of what is culture, not actual pop-culture itself. Not what you or I consider generation defining.
It’s interesting how you broke up to what is “popular to culture” because it can change the perspective from what is popular in a culture to what seems to be popular to a culture. Conflicts can arise and make things seem more important than they really are because it causes media attention, which then gets the people’s attention. I can see your perspective that conflicts can seem to be a minor problem in what creates popular culture and how the article and video somewhat differ from that.
ReplyDeletedo you think that modern politics are greatly influenced by pop cultureand the media machine? or do you think that the corporate owners orchisrate the sceen by defining the "frame work " in wich ideas and information flows?
ReplyDeleteThank you for asking a question, makes doing the three responses so much easier. I think politics aren't so much as shaped by the media as they are thrown into different lights. For example like MSNBC shows the Obama family being silly, chill people, by dancing, making light hearted jokes, and so on. They aren't shaped by media though.
